(#242) User Acceptance of Pharmacy Information System in Hospital Kuala Lumpur
Abstract:
Introduction: Pharmacy Information System (PhIS) is a comprehensive tool to integrate pharmacy related services. This system was introduced in Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) in 2016. The utilisation of PhIS in HKL was below 40% even after 2 years of its implementation. The acceptance of PhIS among user is unknown.
Objectives: This study aims to determine (i) the association between user demographic characteristics and behavioural intention to use PhIS (ii) the predetermined factors, on the acceptance of PhIS.
Methods: A prospective, cross sectional study using self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire was adapted from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model which comprised 26 questions with a 7-point Likert scale. The questionnaire was distributed to all pharmacy staff. The demographic characteristics were: age, gender, duration of service and familiarity to PhIS. The predetermined factors were: Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), Attitude towards Technology (ATT), Self-Efficacy (SE), Anxiety (AX), and Enjoyment (EN).
Results: The response rate was 82.5%. Eventhough there was significant association for age and years of service with acceptance of PHIS, the degree of association was minimal (A: λ=0.075, p=0.005; S: λ=0.102, p=0.005). Among the three significant predetermined factors, an increase in ATT showed the highest likelihood to accept PhIS 43.9% followed by PE (23.1%) and SE (13.5%). (SE: OR=0.865, p=0.013; PE: OR=0.769, p=0.002; ATT: OR=0.561, p<0.001 respectively).
Conclusion: Age and number of years in service are significantly associated with behaviour intention to use PhIS. Factors that influenced user acceptance towards PhIS are attitude towards the technology, performance expectancy and self – efficacy to use the technology. These factors should be considered in efforts to optimise the use of PhIS in pharmacy service delivery.

Conclusion: Generally user found that PhIS is useful in improving daily activities, however a
user friendly interface is needed to assist user to navigate the application. Further research may
be carried out in this area to have a more thorough knowledge of the factors that affect user
acceptance of PhIS in Malaysia.
